Therapeutic Dosing: Optimizing Episodic Care to Meet the Therapeutic Threshold

Plan of care management and intervention are a cornerstone of physical therapy practice as evidenced in the Standards of Practice for Physical Therapy published by the American Physical Therapy Association. Yet, dosing consideration and prescription require continued research especially in the pediatric patient. This course will address the importance of therapeutic dosing for intensity-based practice on the available and developing clinical research while also promoting advancement from traditional considerations for outpatient episodes of care. In providing a framework for selection of appropriate patients including, but not limited to, body structure and function level impairments, environmental and personal factors, clinicians will be able to identify appropriate opportunities for implementation of intensive intervention. Discussion of outcome measures and case studies will assist attendees in determining clinical feasibility across the outpatient setting and provide a scaffold for implementation while recognizing the importance of appropriate dosing.
