Implementation of Functional Vision Screening and Intervention in Pediatric Physical Therapy

Untreated, undocumented vision problems can limit a child's independence with daily tasks and participation in meaningful life events. A more complete consideration of the visual system when evaluating and treating pediatric clients can improve progress towards the goals being addressed in physical therapy. This informational session reviews the 3-component model of pediatric vision and the evidence-based screening tool which allows for comprehensive screening of pediatric vision. Following the review, participants will have the opportunity to practice using the screening tool and to practice screening many aspects of vision using the recommended equipment, assessments and screening procedures. Finally, participants will learn next steps following the completion of the comprehensive vision screen including appropriate referrals and implications for pediatric physical therapy, including appropriate remedial vision interventions.
