Cindy Miles Keynote Lecture: The Role of Pediatric Physical Therapy in Realizing Meaningful Outcomes for Children and Families

This presentation will focus on how pediatric physical therapists can ensure a focus on outcomes that are meaningful to children and families. Practical strategies for optimizing child-engagement in goal-setting and bridging the gap to community physical activity programs will be discussed. Research evidence will be reviewed and implications for research and clinical practice will be emphasized.

  • Understand how physical therapists can support self-determination so that children and youth are empowered to identify meaningful therapy outcomes
  • Understand key points highlighted in the research related to goal setting with children and families
  • Apply approaches to optimize child engagement, motivation and outcomes in their practice
